ITINERARY

 

Day 1

 

Arrival to Seville and transfer to your hotel in the mountain range of Huelva. Free rest of the day.

 

Day 2

 

After breakfast, you will do a guided tour in Aracena, the capital of the eastern area of the mountain range of Huelva. You will learn all about the history and culture of this iconic destination, as well as other mountain tradition of this region of Andalusia.

 

This will be followed by a guided visit to the Cave of Wonders (Gruta de las Maravillas), the first touristic caver attraction in Spain opened in 1914. You will be amazed by the huge amount of stalactites, stalagmites and other natural formations.

 

A “mountain menu” will be served with local seasonal produce.

 

Day 3

 

After breakfast, you will visit Cumbres Mayores, a village of Celtic and Roman origin. You will visit the castle and the fortress as well as learning about the different local celebrations and crafts.

 

You will also visit a local ham-curing facility with a cutting demonstration workshop and tasting. This is one of the most famous factories of Iberian ham in Spain, achieving a Jamón de Huelva Designation of Origin.

 

A “mountain menu” will be served with local seasonal produce.

 

Day 4

 

After breakfast, you will get involved in a chestnut cultivation workshop in the mountain range of Huelva. You will learn about the importance of this iconic tree in the region, the conservation of the perfect environment for its growth and its cultural significance. You can also visit the chestnut eco-farm and learn about how the fruit is processed for exportation.

 

A “mountain menu” will be served with local seasonal produce.

 

Day 5

 

After breakfast, you will enjoy a horseback riding tour in the mountain range of Huelva (a medium to low difficulty ride) where you will take in some of the most beautiful landscapes of the area. The activity includes a picnic stop with locally sourced produce.

 

In the afternoon, you will do a guided visit in Galaroza, considered one of the most important agricultural spots in the mountain range of Huelva. You will learn about the history, traditions and festivals of this town.

 

Day 6

 

After breakfast, you will join a guided tour in Almonaster la Real, the most important mountain village of the area in the 9th century. You will learn about its Islamic origin, traditions and the main points of interest.

 

This will be followed by a leatherwork workshop, a key aspect of the local economy in the region. You will learn about the leather process and also visit a local handcraft shop where you can buy some items should you wish.

 

A “mountain menu” will be served with local seasonal produce.

 

Day 7

 

After breakfast, you will get ready to visit an eco-farm to join in a cheese making workshop and their local cheese museum. You will make your own fresh cheese to take home, as well as learning about the whole process of production and maturing.

 

You will have a cheese tasting session followed by a delicious mountain goat meat stew.

 

In the afternoon you will visit the archaeological Celtic site of Castañuelo. This is a site of three different stages and cultures corresponding to Bronze Age, II Iron Age and the Roman era. You will also enjoy magnificent views over the mountain range.

 

Day 8

 

After breakfast, enjoy a guided tour in Castaño del Robledo, a municipality located in a privileged location surrounded by traditional architecture and dense vegetation dominated by chestnut trees.

 

This activity will be followed by a visit to a family business of traditional chestnut products made using only natural products, first quality raw materials and traditional processes, creating high quality products of unmistakable flavour!
